Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the electronic edition and the print edition of the Arizona Daily Star?

A: The e-edition replicates every regular page of the print edition, including the Sunday color comics. Classified and retail ads are easier to read in the e-edition. You can set up an automated search so that stories or ads with keywords are e-mail to you. The e-edition does not contain all of the advertising inserts, as not all are available electronically from advertisers. We are working with Parade and USA Weekend to make those magazines available as soon as possible.

Q: Is there anything e-subscribers get that print subscribers do not?

A: Yes. On Thursdays, e-edition subscribers get a bonus of all of the regional sections that the Star prints - Northwest, Foothills, East Side and Sahuarita. On Fridays, all e-edition subscribers receive La Estrella, which appears in select ZIP codes in print.

Q: How do I access the e-edition?

A: You can read the e-edition from home, work or on the road, wherever you access the internet. As a subscriber, you'll always have the last seven days of the Arizona Daily Star at the click of your mouse.

Q: How much does a subscription to the e-edition of the Arizona Daily Star cost?

A: The seven-day subscription price is similar to that for seven-day-a-week print delivery. You can use a credit or debit card to subscribe. To subscribe to the Arizona Daily Star e-edition click here

Q: When I attempt to login, the e-edition does not pop up. What do I do?

A: Be sure to turn off your pop-up blocker before accessing e-edition. If your pop-up blocker is on, a "browse" button will appear on the login screen after you've entered your username and password. Pressing this "browse" button will also allow you to access e-edition.

Q: Does it matter whether I have broadband or a dial-up internet connection?

A: A dial-up connection through a modem is a much slower connection speed and is not optimal for viewing the electronic edition. A broadband connection allows for the best connectivity and enjoyment for your subscription. A "56K'' icon can be clicked to view pages in a format that requires less data be downloaded. This format is recommended for users with dial-up modems or other slower internet connections.

Q: When I call up a story through the e-edition, how do I read it?

A: The e-edition uses a split screen. Select from the toolbar at the top of the page what you want to read. The page appears on the left side of the screen. Click on what you want to read. The story or graphic appears on the right side of the screen. You can then view information in two ways. "Graphic View" displays the story as it appears in the newspaper, in columns and with photos in place. "Text View" is a text view of the story and allows you to continue a story from page to page. You can e-mail or print the story in either mode. Use the icons at the top right-hand corner to adjust the view.

Q: Can articles, photos and features such as crossword puzzles and comics be printed out?

A: Yes, click on the element you want to print, then click on the icon of the printer at the top right-hand corner of the toolbar. You may have to adjust your printer settings to contain features to one page.

Q: Can I e-mail articles to a friend?

A: Yes. Click on the feature you want and select the e-mail icon.

Q: Can I download the entire paper as a PDF?

A: PDF, or portable document format, is primarily for users who want to download pages to save or for offline viewing later. Most users would find this view to be too taxing on your computer and your eyes for regular use. The news pages, individual stories and ads are already optimized for Web viewing. But if you want to download a PDF, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

Q: I can't see the whole page on my screen. What do I do?

A: If you cannot view the entire width of the page, find the scroll bar along the bottom edge of your Web page. You can scroll right or left to view more of the page. You also will be able to navigate up and down using the scroll bar on the right edge.

Q: What if I have other questions?

A: Once you subscribe and have a password, there's a help button that will walk you through the e-edition, help you set your resolution, show you easy ways to navigate each edition, guide you through the various viewing modes and show you how to search through the edition as well set up searches so you can be e-mailed whenever your keywords appear in the e-edition.

Q: When I signed up and provided my e-mail address, is that information being offered to any third parties?

A: No. This information is for internal use only. You may receive e-mails from the Arizona Daily Star and Tucson Newspapers only.
